Canvas is a game-changer. It allows you to collaborate with ChatGPT on writing and coding, going beyond simple chat. We’re launching three new features today:
Collaborative Storytelling with Canvas. Lee, one of our engineers, is here to show you how Canvas works. He’s going to create a Christmas story for his kids using Canvas. As you can see, there’s a new button in the composer that lets you access all the tools available, including Canvas.
When you click on Canvas, you’ll see a side-by-side view, with the chat on the left and the canvas on the right. ChatGPT will start writing the story, and you can edit it in real-time. You can make changes, and ChatGPT will see those changes and respond accordingly.
Editing and Feedback with Canvas. One of the most significant advantages of Canvas is the ability to edit and receive feedback in context. You can ask ChatGPT to suggest edits, and it will provide feedback directly in the canvas. You can then apply those edits or make changes on your own.
Programming with Canvas. In addition to writing, Canvas also supports programming. Alexi, our product engineer, is here to show you how it works. He’s been helping Santa with some logistics for toy manufacturing and has been learning some data science tools in Python.
With Canvas, you can write and run Python code directly within the chat interface. You can debug your code, and ChatGPT will provide feedback and suggestions to fix errors. You can even run your code and see the output in real-time.
Custom GPTs with Canvas. We’re also excited to announce that Canvas is now available for custom GPTs. You can create custom tools with Canvas capabilities, enabling you to automate tasks and workflows.
Lee created a custom GPT for Santa to help him write responses to letters. The custom GPT uses Canvas to create a draft response, which Santa can then edit and refine.
